Our community

Christ Lutheran was established in Lakewood in 1958. God has placed us in a unique setting. We are in the midst of a diverse community that lives in one of the most unchurched areas of our country. Our basic call is to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ, both in our words and actions, so that all people would become followers of Christ.

One of our principle neighbors is Joint Base Lewis-McChord. We thank God for

the ministry of military chaplains but believe that we also have a particular calling to connect with this military community.

  • Lead Pastor Ralf Kalms

Although I have the title ‘Lead Pastor’ I’m very grateful to work in partnership with a great team (which also helps spread the blame when something goes wrong!). I’m blessed to work with such fun people.

My wife Thelma and I are both native New Yorkers with on-going loyalties to the Yankees! We have 2 great kids, Rachel and her husband Wade, and their children Liam and Lucy, who live in Minnesota. Our son Aaron and his wife Liz are on staff with Young Life International in Munich, Germany.

I enjoy running and hiking, playing guitar, reading, and being together with Thelma and our friends. I like almost everything about being a pastor and still love the fact that I get to be involved in the lives of kids.

Having not grown up in the church I’m mostly grateful that God found me and made me one of his children!

  • Church administrator - Lyndi reed

Lyndi has been a member here at Christ Lutheran for over 30 years. She grew up in the church, was Confirmed here and is now attending with her husband, Pat and 2 children. Lyndi felt a calling to work at Christ Lutheran, although her degree is in Elementary Education and she loved teaching Kindergarten. She oftens says, "All I really need to know to be an Administrator at Christ Lutheran, I learned while teaching Kindergarten!"
